Description
The Casa del Jazz is the result of an architectural and landscape conversion of the Villa Osio, built at the end of 1930s by Cesare Pascoletti, student of Piacentini.
The three-building complex, in the middle of a wonderful 25,000 sq. metre park, belonged to a famous mafia boss and was converted, after a series of administrative and operative measures and actions, into a multi-purpose music centre. The core of the complex is the main villa that hosts a multipurpose auditorium where lectures on the history of jazz take place, hold by the experts of the sector, guides to listening to music for non experts, press conferences, presentation of new releases and books, didactic activities organized by the best music schools of Rome, readings, festivals and live music, that can be recorded with an appropriate equipment. The same building hosts the library with an important multimedia archive that can be consulted in multimedia seats, a library and a bookstore.
Inside the park there are a sound studio available for beginners and professionals, and also a lodge for Italian and foreign artists that want to remain in the complex. An area with restaurant and coffee shop, as well as the green park full of trees, are at the disposal of the citizens, even out of hours and activities of the Casa del Jazz.
A unique place in Europe and moment of meetings for the great names of international jazz world, the Casa del Jazz is also for less known artists, above all Italians, that cross all the styles of this genre, from Dixieland to avant-garde. Its aim is to encourage and promote jazz in Italy and create meeting occasions between musicians, producers and critics and promoting activities for curious people and laymen.
