Description

Inaugurated in June 2001, the harbour is located just south of the mouth of the Tevere river, 10 minutes car ride from Fiumicino-Leonardo Da Vinci International airport and from Ostia Antica splendid ruins, in the Ostia’s seaplane base area, where Pasolini’s Memorial is. The position is a strategical one also for its connections to Rome city centre within easy reach by the metro line.
The complex represents a modern concept of turistic harbour, based on integrated structures capable of offering a wide rage of services and facilities at sea and on land, opportunities both for business and for leisure.
It was the Emperor Claudius in 42 A.D. to build a completely new port at Ostia. Later enlarged by Trajan in 113 AD It will be called Portus Romae for more than five centuries, until the fall of the Roman Empire will not mark also its end and although the location was perfect, next to the mouth of the Tiber, still navigable up to the heart of the capital, no one has thought to return this "legitimate" property to the Eternal City. Finally in 2001 this situation changed and the Port of Rome has become a reality to be enjoyed. Rebuilt close to the ancient site, it goes back to the original structure, which makes the new building attractively "imperial", but the Port of Rome is not designed to handle trades or military campaigns, but is designed for the benefit of the lovers of pleasure and tourists from around the world. In addition, the port area is surrounded by a protected oasis, managed by the Lipu "Italian League for the Protection of Birds" that enriches the area, contributing to environmental protection.
The harbour facility, built on a 200.000 squared metres surface, totally provided with Wi-Fi, includes:
› 833 boat slip with the possibility to accomodate mega yachts up to 60 metres long;
› 80 shops for commercial activities and restaurants, diving center and also apartments and offices;
› around 1.200 metres of promenade, provided with bike path and with an access to the waterfront;
› over 10.000 mq of exibition areas;
› an amphitheater which has capacity for 750 seats (outdoor);
› 2.300 parking spaces both indoor and outdoor;
