Scheduled this summer in the splendid setting of the Roman Theater of Ostia Antica there will be the Carmina Burana, a collection of religious and
secular songs discovered in the Benediktbeuern Abbey and composed by itinerant clerics, the so-called goliards or clerical vagantes, from the 12th to
the 13th century. A unique occasion in which the union of choir, pianos, percussion and solo singers, one hundred people on stage, form a bridge between history and tradition.
Michel Hofmann helped Orff select and organize twenty-four of those songs in a libretto, mostly in Latin, but also medieval German and old  Provençal.
The selection took into account various themes: luck, health, love, nature, the return of spring, love, food, wine...

The Roman Theater, located within the archaeological excavations of Ostia Antica, offers an extremely suggestive atmosphere, especially on summer
evenings when history meets music. A place definitely to visit. Its construction originates from the age of Augustus, an inscription attributes it to Agrippa (died in 12 BC), son-in-law and powerful minister of the emperor. It is therefore a very ancient building, which together with the rear of Piazzale delle Corporazioni, formed a grandiose complex.
