Description
It is the first public example of "gothic-revival" in the Roman religious architecture. It was built in 1855-1859 on a project by George Wigley in the seventeen-century Villa Caetani and remarkably modified in the early 1900s by Maximilian Schmalzt.
The façade, made of bricks and travertine, is characterized by the ogival that includes the rose-window. It is preceded by a protyrus with three halls, added up in the last restoration. One here venerates the devout image of Maria Santissima known as the "La Madonna del Perpetuo Soccorso", once belonging to the antique church of San Matteo in Merulana.
