Description

The Pallavicini-Rospigliosi Palace houses a collection that was set upin 1679 by cardinal Lazzaro Pallavicini. It includes paintings by Sandro Botticelli (the triptych with the Transfiguration, St. Jerome, and St. Augustine, and the tondo with the Virgin, the Infant, St. John and two Angels), Luca Signorelli (the Madonna, the Infant, the Baptist and another Saint), Annibale and Ludovico Carracci (Portrait of a noblewoman with a lapdog, Christ heals the born blind), Guido Reni (Andromeda freed by Perseus), Peter Paul Rubens (Christ and the twelve Apostles), Mattia Preti (Rape of Ganymede, Rape of Proserpina, and Rape of Europa), and drawings by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (Holy Family and three Angels, which were preparatory studies for the statues of Ponte Sant’Angelo). There are also several landscapes of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. The Casino rises within the boundary wall of the Palace with the famous Aurora, a fresco painted by Guido Reniin 1614 on the ceiling of the great hall and with Landscapes by Paolo Bril on the walls.
