Galleria Russo first opened in 1898 as an antique gallery in via del Babuino. Pasquale Addeo, who was the great-grandfather of the current owner Fabrizio Russo, established this gallery. Addeo’s son-in-law Franco Russo, who specialized in Old Master paintings, inherited the business. His brother Ettore would follow him. 

Antonio Russo, the third brother, would then introduce the new seat of the Barcaccia in Piazza di Spagna, which promptly became one of the most prestigious Italian Modern Art galleries. Many privileged relationships were established with important and well-known painters of the 20th century. One of which included Giorgio de Chirico with whom they had exclusive contact for more than twenty years.  Because of the passion and devotion of Ettore and Antonio Russo, the gallery of Piazza di Spagna became a point of reference to the artistic market in Italy. 

The gallery exhibited the works of important Italian and international artists for more than forty years, including the seats of Via della Croce and Via della Fontanella.

Franco Russo continued to dedicate himself to the artistic world by working with Old Master paintings (Tiziano, Dosso Dossi, Caravaggio, Lega, Segantini, Bellini etc.), with particular interest in Contemporary Italian painting.
