Description

It was built in the 16th century for the Montoro family, noblemen of Umbria. The last heir, Marquise Plautilla married Francesco Chigi, so the family name became Chigi Montoro. In 1736, Marquis Giovanni Chigi Montoro married Maria Virginia Patrizi, the last of the Roman branch of this family, and the marquis also took his wife's surname, becoming Chigi Montoro Patrizi. The last descendant of this family was a Porzia, who married Marquis Tommaso Naro in 1750. This marriage gave birth to Francesco, who also acquired the surname Patrizi, defining the lineage of the Patrizi Naro Montoro, who inherited the palace in Via di Montoro, where the Lepri di Rota family now resides.

As evidence and memory of the glorious past, the Patrizi Naro Montoro family coat of arms is composed of all four coats of arms of the noble families from which it descends. Even the building, although renovated in the eighteenth century, has the ornaments of the various noble coats of arms on its façade: the 19 windows that mark the three floors of the building are decorated with the six Montoro and Chigi mountains on the first floor, the eight-pointed stars of the Chigi on the second and the oak crowns of the Chigi on the third. On the ground floor there is a beautiful rusticated 16th century portal flanked by four windows with grilles, on either side of which there are also two 18th century doors, also decorated with the Chigi stars, and five smaller doors, shaped and decorated with rostrum, mountains and stars. The palace is crowned by a corbelled cornice and a crenellated roof-terrace.
