Description

S. PANTALEO Alreadyrecalled by the end of C. XII, once upon a time the church was defined “deParione” from the district’s name. In 1614 Paolo V conceded it toGiuseppe Calasanzio, founder of the Ordine dei Padri Scolopi. In 1681 it was rebuilt on a project by GiovanniAntonio De Rossi. The works were then completed in 1689. Thefacade, into two orders, dates back to 1806 and was carried out by GiuseppeValadier. In the middle one finds the entry portal between two Ionian columnsand surmounted by a triangular tympanum. In the upper order, a rectangularwindow opens up within a blind arch. The interior consists of a single nave andbears a vault roofing that was frescoed by Filippo Gherardi with the “Trionfodel Nome di Maria” (C.XVII). The high altar, rich of polychrome marbles, wascarried out in 1763-67 and completed by Valadier in 1802. Underneath thealtar one treasures San Giuseppe Calasanzio’s relics.
