The building dates back to the age of Cardinal Scipione Borghese (1576-1633), client of the Villa outside Porta Pinciana. In the beginning it was a rural building intended as the house of the linen attendant of the noble family. The building was in the centre of a large row of mulberries which disappeared in the late ‘700, when the facing Piazza di Siena was created. At that time the architect Antonio Asprucci added the first floor balcony and the little church which was richly frescoed by Felice Giani and Giovan Battista Marchetti. In 1959 in the church was put the tomb of the sculptor Pietro Canonica, who lived for years in the nearby Fortezzuola (now a museum dedicated to him). After a long restoration process which also enabled to recover the original colours of the façade, the decorations of the room and of the church and the frescoes of the porch, now the building is back to its ancient splendour turning itself into a little house of wonders for boys and girls.
