In 1925 the Office of Antiquities and Fine Artsof the Municipality of Rome commissioned ten fountains for the City districts that symbolised each district in a recognisable fashion to the architect Pietro Lombardi. The fountains were inaugurated on 28 October 1927. The one in Via Margutta presentsa set of easels, palettes, masks, brushes, and compasses, a clear reference to the artistic life of which the street is a well-known centre.
