Description

In the north corner of the garden in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II there are the ruins of the lateritious monumental structure called, since the Middle Ages, Trophies of Mario due to the presence of two marble trophies, nowadays placed on the balustrade of the Campidoglio, erroneously assigned to Caio Mario for the victories over the Cimbri and the Teutoni. The building is actually a monumental fountain built by Alessandro Severo in 226 for the distribution of water.
Please note: The monument can be seen from the outside by the gardens of Piazza Vittorio.
