Description

How Rai has transformed the investigative crime genre over 60 years.

A geat exhibition about the protagonists of Italian fiction from the 1950s to today. Through the RAI archives the story of a genre, the classic thriller, constantly evolving and speaking to all generations. It starts with the great TV movies and arrives to the video streaming of the great crime series through the “icon” characters. Over seven decades, the audience has become passionate about the enigmas that were gradually solved by the dramas and RAI series' detectives: sometimes inspired by literary characters, such as Maigret, or Gadda's Ingravallo, or Inspector Montalbano, other times an original creation, starting with Lieutenant Sheridan. The classic thriller has been joined by new sub-genres, gothic stories as well as the devious atmospheres of noir. Black and white has given way to color and new styles have emerged over time, but even today many of the oldest detective stories appear of extraordinary quality.

The exhibition takes advantage of the scientific consultation of Peppino Ortoleva.. The itinerary, through a succession of images and characters tracing the story of these productions dedicated to the noir genre on TV, presents over 100 images in B / W and color, some of large format taken from about eighty television programs. In addition, a series of films made by Teche RAI and commented by illustrious crime writers and scholars such as Maurizio De Giovanni, Giancarlo De Cataldo, Aldo Grasso etc. enriches the show.

As a result of an idea by Stefano Nespolesi and curated by Maria Pia Ammirati and Peppino Ortoleva, it is made in collaboration with the Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori Foundation and INA, Institut National de l'Audiovisuel. Graphic project by Rai Creative Direction. Scenographic project by Carlo Canè.

The multimedia exhibition consists of 200 photographs, in B&W and color, taken from about 80 television programs, 5 video installations and some sound stations and is organized according to a thematic-chronological itinerary.
