Description

In the ground rooms of Palazzo dei Conservatori, an itinerary of seven "Distretti" for the innovation and regeneration of the city with the story of about 100 urban development projects.

There are about 100 urban regeneration projects that Roma Capitale is putting in the field to deliver to its inhabitants, city users and tourists a more sustainable and attractive city, open and shared. The projects - already presented in part on 7 and 8 September 2021 at MIPIM in Cannes, Europe's leading trade fair for the real estate market - are now revealed to the public, grouped into 7 main "Distretti", in the exhibition "Roma, l'Eternità nel Futuro".

The exhibition, with free admission, is promoted by Roma Capitale with the organisation of Zètema Progetto Cultura and the design of Studio Visuale.

The exhibition, designed almost all in digital form, has the objective of narrating in a single immersive environment made up of renderings, videos and drawings, the approximately 100 transformations that are involving and will involve the entire city, with the identification of new sustainable residential districts, the development of creative and productive districts, with their cultural and social meeting places, as well as research and start-up centres.

Through the instrument of the PUMS - Sustainable Urban Mobility Programme, the city of the future is taking shape by redefining the changing contours of its neighbourhoods with the intention of satisfying the heterogeneous demand for mobility in urban and peripheral areas, while safeguarding the infinite riches that characterise the individual territories: from the natural wonders of the Ostia coastline to the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the Esquilino, from the artistic and cultural heritage of the historic centre to the twentieth-century utopias of the Eur, to the industrial archaeology of the Ostiense quadrant. The gateways to the city, i.e. the railway stations and adjoining areas, become real attractive hubs for research excellence and industrial growth.

At the entrance to the exhibition, visitors are received by an introduction video. Above, a representation of the Lupa Capitolina, decorating the ceiling, towers over a display that is reminiscent, in miniature, of the form of the Circo Massimo in which a digital set design stands out with the many future projects, arranged on steps and accessible on video, divided into 7 thematic areas corresponding to 7 districts of the city.

Starting with La città e il suo mare (Sea District), which leads from Ostia to the monumental architectural reality of EUR, along Via Cristoforo Colombo. The next section is Il nostro sud (South Modern District), focusing on the Ostiense district and its industrial archaeology dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. The next section is S.M.I.L.E - La ferrovia che unisce la città (Railway Circle Line), which explores projects aimed at highlighting the centrality and attractiveness of railway junctions. Then with the decisive district of Il Polo Est (The East Pole), the fulcrum of a new urban polarity to be achieved through the organic and functional reorganisation of the Tiburtina/Pietralata quadrant. With Tante città in una (Geo Areas), on the other hand, the many faces of the capital are told through its communities, cultural and social gathering spaces, and regeneration programmes throughout the city. The Olympic City (Olympic Vision District), on the other hand, narrates the idea of development of the Flaminio district, one of the most dynamic in the city thanks to the cultural ferment of its architectural and artistic spaces. Finally, the section At the Centro del Futuro (Eternal District), with projects that, while respecting tradition, project the historic centre of Rome towards a new idea of urban nucleus.

All the projects on display in the exhibition have their own QR code that allows the contents to be explored in greater depth on the relevant online files, which can be consulted at the moment or, at a more leisurely pace, at the end of your visit. The web pages contain videos, further images, more detailed texts and a complete list of credits for each project. A sort of free catalogue will also be distributed, which can be taken anywhere to continue the experience of the visit and play an increasingly active role in the construction of Rome's future.
