Description

Italian cinema from the "white telephone" films to the "Dolce Vita" is brought back to life in the portraits of its major protagonists.

The exhibition features approximately eighty half and full-length portraits of Italian actors from 1930 to 1960, chosen among the over 600 glass plate negatives made by the photographer Manlio Villoresi (Città di Castello 1891 - Rome 1976) stored in the Photographic Archive of the Museum of Rome.

Manlio Villoresi started its activity in Citta di Castello with his father Aristide, then he moved to Rome and became popular with the bourgeoisie and the aristocracy of Rome. He portrayed musicians, athletes, and especially film actors working in the Cinecittà studios.

On display recent and vintage prints, glass plate negatives, among which portraits of Emma Gramatica, Massimo Girotti, Raf Vallone, Franca Faldini, Anna Magnani, Vittorio Gasmann, Marcello Mastroianni, Alberto Lupo, at the beginning of their film career.
