The XI edition of "LETTERATURE Festival Internazionale di Roma", is the largest international literary event, conceived by MARIA IDA GAETA and directed by FABRIZIO ARCURI. Just like the successful past editions, the authors invited to the event will read unpublished texts according to their genre (fiction, poetry or essay) and inspired to "SEMPLICE/COMPLESSO", the main theme of this edition of the Festival. The writers and their works will be the protagonists of the ten-night event characterized by many reflections on the relationship and the close interrelationship between the size of complexity and the size of simplicity when dealing with thoughts and writing.
Michael Nyman, one of the most important musicians and composers on the contemporary scene, a master of minimalism and the author of memorable soundtracks of Peter Greenaway's films or Lezioni di piano by Jane Campion will be the extraordinary guest of the inauguration on May 16, 2012.
Many foreign and Italian representative of contemporary literature have been invited to the event. They are literary authors such as the Israeli writer Amos Oz, the Italian authors Alessandro Piperno, Melania Mazzucco and Erri De Luca, the American writer Peter Cameron and the British author Jeanette Winterson; international best seller writers such as David Nicholls and Vanessa Diffenbaugh or the extraordinary popular author Michael Connelly, who will participate to the event the same night of the Italian crime writer Marco Malvaldi; successful debut writers such as the American/Japanese Julie Otsuka, the revelation of the year, and the Italian authors Silvia Avallone and Massimo Gramellini; the Indian poet Jeet Thayil with his first novel representing the writing of reality and the Italian Ascanio Celestini, who will share the stage of Massenzio. The two nights about the meeting between different expressions of women's world feature the presence of the journalist and romance novelist Karen Swan and the great Italian writer and actress Franca Valeri or the novelist Sophie Kinsella, the author of "books for girls" and Luisa Muraro, the Italian philosopher and intellectual, one of the main representatives of the theory of difference that is a model for studies on the thought of women.
