Description

SANTISSIMA TRINITÀ DEI PELLEGRINI Thechurch was donated in 1558 by Pope Paul IV to the Arciconfraterita dei Pellegrini e dei Convalescenti (a charityorganisation founded by San Filippo Neri to care for the poor and sick), andwas rebuilt in the years 1603-1616 on the plans of Paolo Maggi.Thetall and slightly concave 18th century façade of pictorial effectwas built by Francesco De Sanctis in 1723 and is characterised by two orders ofsix Corinthian and composite columns. It is embellished with four nichescontaining statues of the Evangelists by Bernardo Ludovisi.Theinside of the church follows a Latin cross plan and has a huge nave with threechapels on each side that were redesigned by Antonio Sarti in 1853. The churchcontains many sculptures and splendid frescoes, such as the “Eternal Father andAngels” by Guido Reni (1612).
