Description
Descrizione:
SANT'EGIDIO It rises in the area of an older church defined "San Lorenzo in Ianiculo". Built by Filippo Colonna in 1630, the church of Sant'Egidio was once the church of the nearby Carmelite convent, one of the many in this area, destined to host the poor people. The convent is now a Museo di Folklore which also treasures manuscripts of two Roman dialectal poets, Belli and Trilussa. It has the façade characterized by a unique order of Corinthian pilaster strips. In the single-naved interior one finds the "Monumento funebre di Veronica Rondinini Origo" carried out on a drawing by Carlo Fontana. It was dedicated to the "Madonna del Carmine".
