Description

S. STANISLAO The present church was built in 1578 by thePolish Cardinal Stanislao Osio, who dedicated it to San Stanislao, patron saintof the Polish people, providing it with a hospice and a hospital for the fellowcountrymen who were in Rome as pilgrims. Between 1729 and 1735 the entirestructure, by now undergoing heavy degradation, was entirely rebuilt byFrancesco Ferrari. The façade includes two orders separated by astrip with the dedicatory inscription. The interior, embodying a unique nave, is richof stuccos and decors and houses works by Polish artists of the 1700s on theside altars. The vault is decorated by a 1774 fresco by Ermenegildo Costantini portrayingSan Stanislao’s glory.
