Description
The name San Giovanni "della Malva" is a mangled term by the trasteverini’s pronunciation, out of the original expression "mica aurea", that used to define that part of the Janiculum hill that is now called Montorio during the Middle Ages. The church, in fact, is located at the bottom of the slope that leads to the peak of the afore mentioned hill. During C.XIV it was called San Ioannes ad Ianiculum. Sixtus IV then restored it in1475, year of the jubilaeum.
