Description
S. PAOLO ALLA REGOLA It holds particular importance because it hasbeen the first residence for Paolo in Rome. The house was later on turned intoan oratory and then in a church during C. IV. In 1594 it was conceded to theAgostiniani Scalzi who also conceded it to the Sicialian monks of the TerzoOrdine dei Frati Francescani in 1619. It was completely remodelled by the endof C. XVII by G. B. Bergonzoni. The façade, designed by Giacomo Cioli and thencompleted by Giuseppe Sardi, embodies two orders. In the upper one a windowsurmounted by a bas-relief portraying San Paolo opens up.. The interior embodies a Greek-cross-plan withfour chapels by the corners. In the bottom part, one finds a big apse frescoedwith "Storie della Vita di San Paolo" by Luigi Garzi. Thechurch also treasures works by Lenardi, Stern, Rocca, Garzi, Calandrucci andFrancesco Mazzola detto il Parmigianino.
