Academy facilities are closed during most Italian national holidays as well as the 4th Thursday of November (American Thanksgiving) and on the 4th of July (American Independence Day).
Established in 1894 and chartered by an Act of Congress in 1905, the American Academy in Rome is a center that sustains independent artistic pursuits and humanistic studies. Each year, through a national competition, the Rome Prize is awarded to 15 emerging artists and 15 scholars. A letter of introduction from your home institution is necessary to access the library.
