Description
The Museum of Origins was founded in 1942 by the scholar of Palaeoethnology Ugo Rellini with collections that belonged to him and material given on consignment by the Superintendency to Antiquities. Its goals are purely didactic. The first organic arrangement of the collection dates back to 1962, on the occasion of the Sixth International Congress on Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences. The set of prehistoric findings (coming from excavations, exchanges, and European and non-European collections) either original or integrated by casts and reconstructions constitutes a chronological path that documents the different periods from the Paleolithic Age to the Iron Age. It consists of hunting and fishing tools or tools for daily use, made of stone, horn, and bone, wood, ceramics, and copper. Central and southern Italy are well represented with findings coming from Latium, Basilicata, Apulia, and Sicily.
