Description
It consists of what was, for a long time, the atelier of Antonio Canova (1757-1822) when he worked in Rome.
In 1818 the studio was given by the inconvenient sculptor to his favourite pupil, Adamo Tadolini, founder of four generations of sculptors. The Tadolini family - Adamo, Giulio, Scipione and Enrico - worked in Rome between 1808 and 1967, producing over 500 works for Italy as well as for European, American and Asian cities.
The atelier was later sold by the Tadolini heirs and purchased entirely by the Galleria Antiquaria Benucci. The artistic patrimony of the studio, consisting of about 400 works including sketches, plaster casts, documents and instruments, was notified by the Italian State and therefore not saleable or movable.
