Description

The Museum of the Early Middle Ages keeps several archaeological materials that can be dated back between the sixth and thirteenth century AD. A golden fibula found on the Palatine (fourth-sixth century) is a significant finding of the late-ancient period, while funerary trousseaus coming from the Longobard necropolises of Nocera Umbra and Castel Trosino date back to the sixth-seventh century. An excellent example of sculpture of the early Middle Ages by Roman artists is instead represented by the ceramics and the ruins of a marble finishing coming from the Santa Cornelia complex near Rome. A section of the museum exhibits also a collection of (fifth-seventh and ninth-tenth century) fabrics that belonged to funerary trousseaus and religious and parade furnishings of Coptic-Christian Egypt.
