The Museum of the Children of Rome is mainly addressed to children from 3 to 12 years of age, to school classes, and families. The museum is located at a short distance from Piazza del Popolo in the reclaimed Spazio Flaminio, former ATAC deposit dated back to 1877. The project for the reconversion of its use was designed without architectonic barriers, studied to comply with the environment, and realized with recycled and recyclable materials. The exhibition pavilion is characterized by a metallic steel structure with small cast iron columns, glass walls, and a large skylight as a roof. On the roof a solar panel system demonstrates how the energy of the sun can be transformed into electric energy. The idea that guides the Museum is the representation of the city, its structures, services, presented as an enormous toy that the children can use, observe, touch, discover in full autonomy and through the game and social relations. The representation of the city is highlighted by the setting of the premises with corridors paved as actual roads, pavements and pedestrian crossings, a semaphore, plants, and green spaces; the external walls of the various sectors show the typical the shop or service signs that are exhibited in them. The post office, television studio, supermarket, station, garage, hospital, and restaurant open on the square with its fountain and the wall clock. These are occasions through which children can discover the mysteries day by day activities, but above all realize their behavior when they are in relation with others.
