Description

The Casilino ad Duas Lauros Ecomuseum is an area that extends from Porta Maggiore to via Tor De Schiavi and from Quadraro Vecchio to Villa Gordiani.
It is an area with a rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage surveyed and systematised by the Associazione per l'Ecomuseo Casilino ad Duas Lauros, which has been recognised by the Lazio Region as the managing body of the Ecomuseum.
The Association promotes activities of research, exploration, study and participation aimed at involving citizens in the discovery and transmission of the immense cultural heritage of the area.

THEMATIC PATHS

ANTHROPOLOGY, COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Places of community but also of collective narration and transformation. Spaces of protected identity and identity under construction, of exchange, conflict, memory and nostalgia. A palimpsest of stories, imaginaries, traditions, beliefs, personal and collective quests that make up a mosaic of a territory in constant evolution. The route has been prototyped in Tor Pignattara and preparatory research is underway to develop new routes in the area of Centocelle and Villa Gordiani.

VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE ARCHAEOLOGY
Along the historic route of two ancient roadways (Casilina and Prenestina) there are numerous archaeological testimonies that make this area the second most important area for archaeological presences after the historic centre. We will explore the mysterious underground Basilica of Porta Maggiore, the Torrione Prenestino, the complesso dei Gordiani, the Catacombe dei SS. Marcellino e Pietro and the Mausoleo di Sant'Elena, the Parco archeologico di Centocelle and we will show you the rich heritage still hidden and inaccessible.

PUBLIC ART AND COMMUNITY
A journey through public wall art in the three neighbourhoods that have seen the explosion of the street art phenomenon. Quadraro, Tor Pignattara and Pigneto are the areas of the Casilino Ecomuseum where it is possible to explore veritable open-air museums that embellish entire buildings, blind walls and public walls. This itinerary has been realised thanks to the collaboration of Galleria Wunderkammern, Progetto M.U.Ro and Muri Sicuri.

THE FORMS OF THE SACRED
Being a territory crossed by the Via Francigene del Sud, part of the system of late antique and medieval pilgrimage routes, and home to the mausoleum of Sant'Elena, the area has strong ties with the Christian tradition, but at the same time has always had a multi-faith vocation (as testified by the underground Basilica of Porta Maggiore, the Catacombe Ebraiche on the Via Labicana and the possible Ipogeo di Villa Cerere). This "plural" dimension has been confirmed and implemented recently thanks to endogenous and exogenous migratory phenomena have led to the constitution of heritage of the sacred of rare complexity.

PLACES OF RESISTANCE IN THE VIII ZONE
A journey through the resources that make up the landscape of history and memory of the Second World War and the struggle for Liberation from Nazism in the districts that were part of the VIII Resistance Zone. Today that landscape emerges from some elements that are still clearly visible along the streets and on the buildings, while in other cases memory must be sought in the invisible, in the memory of witnesses and in the research of historians in the area.

PLACES OF PARTICIPATION AND POLITICAL COMMITMENT
The neighbourhoods of Centocelle and Villa Gordiani have been political laboratories of enormous importance for the political and social history of the city of Rome. Born during the years of Fascism as places of marginalisation of the working classes, they then experienced the post-war building boom, contributing to the cultural and political debate on the struggle for housing, the improvement of living conditions in the peripheral areas, through the development of personal and community services.

THE PLACES OF THE GREAT WAR
The neighbourhoods of the Casilino Ecomuseum preserve places and works to remember episodes and victims of the Great War. At the beginning of the 20th century, this memory also became an urban planning idea, with the design of the so-called "Heroes of Flight district".

BETWEEN COUNTRYSIDE AND CITY, URBAN AND RURAL
The resources, i.e. the points of interest in the territory of this route, are interwoven in plots of meaning, constituting some crucial nodes, which today have also become symbols of the district to be recovered in order to imagine a future for these places.
