Description

Villa Gamberini was initially built in the expanding area that was being planned and parcelled out behind Roma Termini railway station. It was commissioned by Count Giuseppe Gamberini in the early 1880s. It consists of a single three-storey volume surrounded by a perimeter garden. The façade, recently restored, is sober and severe in its volumes and characterised by the decorations of the windows and the frieze of the top cornice, all in Rococo style. The interior is richly decorated with splendid mosaics. Noteworthy for the elegance and taste of the decorations is the Salone delle Feste with its gilded stucco frames and lively wall paintings. In 1887 Countess Lodigiani Gamberini sold the villa to the Ottoman Empire as a diplomatic representation in the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, and today it is still the seat of the Turkish Embassy in Rome.
