Description

If you climb the large flight of steps leading from via della Dataria to Piazza del Quirinale, you feel as if you reached a real terrace over the city. Leaving the narrow lanes around the Fontana di Trevi an aerial view opens suddenly before you, where the shapes of majestic palaces catch your eye. From this rather low and yet fascinating and peaceful point, the cupola of San Pietro, the column of Marcus Aurelius, the top of Palazzo di Montecitorio and a sea of roofs far and near stand out against the sky.
To have a better sight enter the Scuderie papali, the majestic palace looking onto the square, the seat of prestigious exhibitions. At the end of the visit, on the third floor, you go down an external staircase protected by a glass. From here the view is spectacular, by day and much more by night. On the left stands out the massive shape of the Altare della Patria, then the cupola of the Church del Gesù, behind it you can have a glimpse of the Fontanone del Gianicolo. Further on, after the characteristic bell tower of S. Ivo alla Sapienza and the large façade of the Basilica of San Pietro, the sight reaches the green of Villa Medici and the Pincio.
