Description
Built in 1890, designed by architect Gaetano Koch, for Prince Ludovisi. The inspiration for the project was Palazzo Farnese in Piazza Farnese, from which it takes its stylistic motifs. Sold to the Savoys, it became the residence of Queen Margherita (hence the name) until the year of her death in 1926. Since the end of the Second World War, it has housed the American Embassy, and is home to Gianbologna's Venus, the only existing work by the 16th-century sculptor in Rome.
