Description

In 1528, the Florentine banker Luigi Taddeo Gaddi bought a modest house in Via del Banco di Santo Spirito from the Strozzi family, on the site of which he immediately built the family palace, using, according to Vasari, the work of Sansovino. Certain documents indicate that Michelangelo lived in the palace for some years.
In the 17th century, the building passed to the Bandini family, then to the Valdina Cremona family, who had their main residence in Campo Marzio, and then to the Niccolini.
On the left of the façade, when the palace was purchased by the Amici family, a new, lower body was added, characterised by the presence of a large serliana (1841).
The palace retains its original 16th-century forms with a remarkable portal and workshop doors made of ashlar.
The entrance is surmounted by a majestic balcony onto which opens the large window on the main floor with a triangular tympanum. To crown it there is a heavy cornice with small corbels.
