Address: Via Santo Stefano del Cacco

Description

The fountain is placed outside the rear facade of Palazzo Altieri and consists of a sarcophagus of the Roman age. Two winged putti supporting a medallion with the head of the Gorgon are represented on the sarcophagus. On the sides there are two putti and below two squirrels eating fruit coming out from two vases knocked down, a bow and a quiver. The sarcophagus is inserted within an architectural facade that presents the coat of arms of the Altieri family and an inscription that commemorates that the fountain that had been in the palace since the middle of the seventeenth century, was “moved from the palace for public use in the year 1874”.
