Description

The fountain of Nettuno (Neptune) is placed in the Western hemicycle of Piazza del Popolo on the side towards the Tiber river. It consists of a circular travertine pond that supports a large Tiburtin shell, above which a small cup collects the water that pours from the wall. The fountain is crowned by a group designed by Valadier and sculpted by Giovanni Ceccarini (1822-1824), representing Neptune with two tritons leaning on dauphins at his feet.
