Description
The Colosseum Archaeological Park was established by Ministerial Decree no. 15 of 12 January 2017, with the aim of assigning to an institute with special autonomy the task of providing for the protection and enhancement of the central archaeological area of Rome and to implement the agreement signed by MiBACT and Roma Capitale on 21 April 2015.
The territory under the Park's jurisdiction includes both areas and monuments under direct state jurisdiction (Colosseum, Domus Aurea, Arch of Constantine and Meta Sudans, Roman Forum and Palatine), and those under the jurisdiction of Roma Capitale (Circus Maximus, Imperial Forums), as well as the extremely rich ecclesiastical heritage consisting of the churches along Via dei Fori Imperiali and along the Palatine Hill and its slopes (such as the basilicas of Saints Cosmas and Damian, St. Bonaventure and St. Anastasia on the Palatine), owned by various organisations (Fondo Edifici di Culto del Ministero dell'Interno, Vicariato di Roma and others).
