Description

The present basilica dedicated to St. Susanna was rebuilt on a pre-existing early Christian church, which in turn was erected on the remains of three Roman villas built one on top of the other. According to tradition, this was the house of the young Susanna, where she was martyred in 295 AD. In the 4th century, the church was referred to as the Church of St. Susanna ad 'duas domos' (at the two villas).
