descrizione
The Museum of Villa Doria Pamphilj – Old Country-house keeps sculptures, paintings, engravings, drawings, archaeological findings and photographs that testimony the history of the Country-house and of the Doria Pamphilj family. The Old Country-house is the most ancient residence of the Doria Pamphilj family inside the great Country-house and represents a rare example of noble residence that has remained in good conditions in the course of centuries. In the second half of the eighteenth century the building was enriched by a great staircase of honor and with stucco decorations of heraldic subjects and armstrophies.  In 1868 a wing of the building was demolished to make space for new greenhouses, realized in castiron and glasses and designed by the architects Giovanni Gui and Andrea Busiri Vici. A magnificent garden of palm-trees and the Garden of Citron Trees, still cultivated today with fruit trees and citrus trees from which it takes its name, open in front of the greenhouses.
